MONTESSORI FOR MINIS 🌈🌿
Would you love to create a calmer atmosphere in your home?
Are you hoping your helper will use more language throughout daily routines?
Do you dream of nurturing independence in your children from the very beginning?
In this edition, we hear from Evolve Sprouts about how we can use Montessori techniques at home with our little ones and ensure that the whole family is on board.
Montessori isn’t just for classrooms - it’s a way of caring for children that makes daily life calmer and more connected. When all caregivers (parents, grandparents, helpers, aunties) use the same simple techniques, routines become opportunities for trust and learning.

Here are some of our tops tips for bring Montessori into your home:
1. Talk Through Routines
Babies feel more secure when they know what’s happening. Narrate care moments like nappy changes:
“I’m going to lift you now.”
“Let’s take off your nappy. Now I’m wiping your leg.”
Tip: Encourage every caregiver to just say what they’re doing. It builds language and connection.
2. Slow Down and Wait
Instead of rushing, give baby time to join in.
“Can you push your arm through the sleeve?” (pause to let them try).
Tip: Even a 5-second pause shows respect and gives baby space to participate. If you're struggling to stop yourself from jumping in and helping - physically sit on your hands!
3. Use Shared Language
Agree on a few consistent phrases so baby knows what to expect.
Always greet before touch: “Hi Noah, I’m going to pick you up.”
Offer choices: “Blue bib or green bib?”
Tip: Print a simple caregiver guide with these phrases by the changing table or kitchen.
4. Be Fully Present
Focus on the baby during care instead of chatting with others. A calm voice and gentle touch make the baby feel safe and respected.
5. Set Up the Space
An organised environment helps everyone stay calm. Keep nappies and wipes within reach, and offer a basket of toys baby can choose from.
These techniques apply everywhere - mealtimes, play, transitions. Every caregiver can help turn ordinary routines into moments of connection; and when all caregivers use these Montessori-inspired habits, babies experience consistency, respect and security - building independence and confidence from the very start.
If you'd like to know more on how to bring Montessori in to your own home, we're here to help with both our evening workshops and our My Best Auntie Montessori training.
